Chair:Bill Pardy
Bill Pardy leads Hicksons' Canberra office. He maintains concurrent practices in the ACT and NSW jurisdictions. His experience spans insurance litigation (predominantly workplace injuries), industrial relations, WHS and employment matters. Bill has a special interest in psychological injury claims. Bill has extensive experience in training new solicitors and has been involved in establishing risk management guidelines for community and sporting groups. Bill was the author of the 'Workplace Injuries & Workers Compensation' topic in the Lexis Nexis Practical Guidance - Personal Injury NSW module published in 2013.
Sarah McJannett
Sarah McJannett has practised in the Territory for over 15 years. She started work in a predominantly plaintiff's practice, before moving to Phillips Fox in 2004 - and its later incarnations DLA Phillips Fox and then DLA Piper. Sarah went on to be one of the founding employees of the HWL Ebsworth Canberra office with a number of her peers, where she was appointed Special Counsel in 2012. Her practice is now exclusively insurance based ranging from government and private clients, public liability, workers compensation, CTP and medical negligence claims. Sarah is an active member of the ACT Law Society Civil Litigation Committee, and s also a member of the Womens Lawyers Association and the Australian Lawyers Alliance.
Sarah Avery
Sarah Avery recently stepped down from her position as a personal injuries compensation lawyer in Maurice Blackburn's Canberra office in the ACT. She helps people with work and road accident injury compensation claims. Sarah is also the ACT Law Society President.
Chase Deans
Chase Deans commenced work with Moray & Agnew in 2014. Prior to joining Moray & Agnew, he worked for the ACT Law Society as a policy officer, working on State and Commonwealth legislative reform. His main area of practice is insurance litigation. He works for all major insurers and practice in most business lines. Chase specialise in compulsory third party insurance, workers compensation, public liability and product liability. Chase have also provided high level advice in matters involving property damage, electrical failures, air condition engineering defects and construction/business interruption disputes involving multiple parties. Chase works on business lines in both the ACT and NSW jurisdictions. Chase is an competent advocate, appearing regularly in the ACT Courts. He has regularly appeared in contested Applications in the ACT Courts and have appeared at a contested Hearing in the ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal. Chase has represented various clients at mediations in both the ACT and NSW. He has experience preparing complex matters to hearing, in both the ACT and NSW jurisdictions. He has provided high level advice on issues of indemnity, dual insurance, recovery and estoppel. Chase also has experience in wills, powers of attorney and debt recovery.
Andrew Muller
Nevin Agnew
Nevin Agnew (Partner, Australian Capital Territory) is an alternative dispute resolution specialist focussing on insurance and commercial litigation. He has more than 20 years' experience advising insurers, private companies and government clients in strategic insurance and regulatory-related matters. Nevin's expertise includes claims and claims management, professional indemnity for medical defence organisations, solicitors, accountants, architects, valuers and engineers, policy drafting and interpretation. He also provides strategic interpretation advice and appears for public sector clients before the Courts. He also has a special interest in aviation, acting as Counsel in aviation crashes. He is well-known for successfully resolving matters through alternative dispute resolution techniques, and is also skilled in handling litigation throughout Australia, including in the Supreme Court and Federal Courts. He has acted in large class actions in Federal Court, appeared as Counsel before Coronial inquests, and he also worked on the project to create Comcover, the Federal Government self-managed insurance scheme. Some long-standing clients include Alliance and GIO/Suncorp, Australian Transport Safety Bureau, the Department of Defence, Department of Infrastructure and Transport, and major Medical Defence Organisations. Nevin is a Fellow of the Australian Insurance Institute, and member of the ACT Australian Medical Association's legal committee.
